Corvi-Mora is proud to present an exhibition of new work by Glenn Sorensen. His seventh at the gallery, it marks twenty years of collaboration between the gallery and the artist.

Australian by birth, Glenn Sorensen has lived in Sweden since the early nineties. The focus of his artistic practice has always been figurative painting. Over the course of time his subject matter has always been similar: flowers or plants, objects around him or family members. The major shifts that have taken place in his paintings have concerned the modes of representation: over the last ten years especially, his palette has become more and more narrow and the connection to recognisable figuration in the pictures more and more loose. The current body of work explores the possibilities of a palette limited to two colours and a figuration that loses most references and in which the abstracted shapes become cyphers or symbols.

The main unifying feature of his twenty five years of painting is the colour black: used mostly as background, it is made to suggest depth and volume without describing them. Its indeterminateness becomes the measure of the knowable, both in art and life.

Glenn Sorensen (1968, Sydney) studied at the Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts (1990) and the City Art Institute, Sydney (1986-88).
