CORVI-MORA

Imran Qureshi and Tomoaki Suzuki

30.03.19 - 18.05.19

Tommaso Corvi-Mora is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Imran Qureshi and Tomoaki Suzuki.

The exhibition juxtaposes Tomoaki Suzuki’s wooden sculptures to Imran Qureshi’s figurative miniature paintings, emphasizing the similarity in approach: both artists employ traditional techniques to create a work that is very contemporary and comments on the world we live in today.

Imran Qureshi was made ‘Deutsche Bank Artist of the Year’ in 2013 and had an exhibition at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, in 2014. Recent international exhibitions include site-specific installation “By the People” at the Washington National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. (2018), “Two Wings To Fly, Not One” with Aisha Khalid at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, National Art Gallery, Islamabad (2017) and “Where the Shadows are so Deep” at the Barbican in London (2016).

Tomoaki Suzuki has shown extensively both in the UK and overseas, most recently in group shows “On danse ?” at Mucem in Marseille (2019) and “Enfance - Encore un jour banane pour le poisson-rêve” at Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2018). He has had recent solo exhibitions at Ushaw Gallery in Durham (2018) and a touring survey exhibition in Mexico, which travelled to Monterrey and Mexico City in 2017.
